Visit a Museum
If you’re a museum lover, you’re in luck! Newport News has three great museums you and your family can explore. The Virginia Living Museum is a great family outing! The kids will love seeing and interacting with the animals. An educational experience, you’ll learn about habitats, wildlife, and plant species in person. And if you’re interested in learning about the region’s maritime industry and the world’s waters, you’ll love visiting the Mariner’s Museum and park. The fee is $1 and the knowledge you’ll gain is invaluable. But, if you’re a history buff, you’ll want to check out the Virginia War Museum and its many artifacts.
If you’re looking to go get outdoors, go hike The Noland Trail! The Noland Trail is 5.9 miles long near the Mariner’s Museum. The trail passes by the Mariner’s Museum Park which has incredible views of the James River. If you enjoy fishing, grab your pole and head to the James River Fishing Pier. Right next door, you’ll find Huntington Park and a beach where you’ll see boaters, paddle boarders, and sunbathers enjoying the sun. The Peninsula SPCA in Newport News has a petting zoo! The kids will love it! Families are allowed to interact with and feed several different animals. There are alpacas, peacocks, chickens, goats, and more!
